2013 WiN Global Conference
The 2013 WiN Global Conference will be held in Johannesburg in South Africa from the 5th to the 10th of October 2013. The Conference theme is “Nuclear Technology: Supporting Sustainable Socio-economic Development”.
This theme has been chosen to allow integration of presentations from all applications of nuclear technology, from energy generation and developments in NPP technologies, to life-saving medical breakthroughs and radiation treatments. When referring to nuclear the focus is too often solely on electricity generations and too little is said about other applications of nuclear technology. Yet they are as old as the generation of electricity itself and offer socio-economic solutions to so many sustainability challenges. The Fukushima crisis forces the industry to showcase, more than ever, all applications of advanced nuclear technologies and their ability to sustain socio-economic development, not just power generation.
The 2013 Conference will once again provide a forum for the sharing of ideas, presentation of research findings, and discussion of professional issues relevant to both technical and non-technical women in the industry. The Conference will also be followed by two days of post-Conference tours to the world famous Kruger National Park, Vaalputs Radioactive Waste Disposal Facility, iThemba Laboratory for Accelerator-Based Sciences and Koeberg Nuclear Power Station.
