WiN Global Conference 2015
The theme of the 2015 WiN Global Conference, Women in Nuclear Meet Atoms for Peace, reflected its location at the IAEA in Vienna, Austria. Australians Jo Lackenby, Amy Le, Sarah Ballantyne and Jasmin Craufurd-Hill were among 470 participants from 62 countries to hear presentations on topics including
- Career development of women in nuclear-related fields and communication
- Nuclear applications
- Nuclear energy, environment and climate change
- Safeguards and non-proliferation
- IAEA Departments
This conference also saw the signing of the Women in Nuclear Declaration for the Earth Climate, acknowledging the crucial role of nuclear energy in preserving the earth for future generations. WiN took the declaration to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Conference that was held in Paris in December 2015.
The technical tours were a highlight of the conference, and included Zwentendorf Nuclear Power Plant, Seibersdorf Laboratories and Nuclear Engineering Seibersdorf, MedAustron Ion Beam Therapy Centre and Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO).
